Brookgreen Gardens
(Near Murrells Inlet)
Brookgreen is the country's first and largest sculpture
garden where some 550 works of American figurative sculpture
are displayed throughout the Archer and Anna Hyatt
Huntington Sculpture Garden, one of the most beautiful
public gardens in the Southeast. The history and setting of
Brookgreen alone would make a visit a must for those who
appreciate history and the outdoors. Brookgreen is part of a
9,000 + acre preserve set amongst the ruins of several
former rice and indigo plantations. There is a Low-country
Trail with native wildlife exhibits as well as historical
and cultural exhibits that reveal the distinctive life and
land of Low-country Carolina. Tours and excursions are
offered daily, as well as seasonal programs. In addition to
the tours there are several places to eat. Before or
after a
tour you can visit the old kitchen and have lunch on the
terrace, or you can order a picnic lunch and take it to your
favorite place on the grounds.
